Check out what we're learning...Literacy: This week the students will learn that good reader's can not only identify the characters in the story, but they can also learn more about the story by describing the characters. Our mentor text will be Corduroy. We will describe the character on the outside as well as how the character feels in the story. Another skill that we will introduce is retelling the story using the character.
In phonics we will continue learning about the first sounds in words and how to listen for the different sounds. This concept will be integrated into writing, where students will continue to label objects or pictures by stretching out the sounds they hear in the words and writing the matching letter. This is inventive spelling and should be a misspelling. Although this seems wrong, it is very developmental for this age. We will also move into writing sentences to describe our pictures. Sight Words: it, look, so, my, see Math: The students will continue reading and writing numbers 6-10. Comparing numbers and using the terms greater than and less than will also continue this week. Please remember to have your child practice counting to 25 or higher if then can. Science: Science is integrated into all other subjects this week. We will learn about the different types of weather. We will chart the weather this week to see any patterns we notice in the season of Fall. Comments are closed.
