Reminders & Upcoming Events
We loved seeing all of our grandparents Friday! We hope to see you again! Please let your child's teacher know if they would like to come in to volunteer or read to the class. Calling all Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer in the school or go with your child on a field trip, you must register as a volunteer. Please visit : www.cmsvolunteers.com Save the date: Oct. 10, will be our first field trip to Hodge's Farm. Permission slips came home this week. Cost for students and chaperons is $15. Each class will need at least 1 chaperon to help. Additional parents are able to go, but will need to drive on their own and pay admission upon arrival. Please contact your child's teacher if you would like to chaperon. 9/24 Homework Journals begin this week and are due Friday. 9/25 Moe's Spirit Night: Please join us for dinner at Moe's. Part of the nights proceeds will go back to the school. 9/28 Spirit Day: Wear you Croft shirts or colors (blue and green) The first round of testing is underway. You child will be completing Reading 3d testing as well as MAP testing. Both tests will give us a baseline to help determine how to best individualize your child's learning. They will be assessed again at the middle of the year and end of the year.
Literacy: This week students will continue to discover the importance of re-reading books. They will also practice the skill of retelling a familiar story with the study of The Little Red Hen. Please remember to read with your child nightly. Also, sight word homework will begin this week. 9/24 I, a, is, the, me Writing: This week students will learn the importance of adding details to their writing/illustrations. They will also begin to label their pictures with letters and stretch out words to hear and write the corresponding sounds. You should begin to see inventive, phonetic spelling in their writing. Social Studies: We will continue to learn about what a good citizen looks like. We will explore the life of Johnny Appleseed (Chapman). We will read texts to find out how he was responsible. Math: this week we will finish up the first topic in math working with numbers 0-5. (reading, counting , writing and comparing) Comments are closed.
